About Chicago![]() ![]() |
What a great place to live and learn! The Windy City is the birthplace of the skyscraper, site of The Great Fire of 1871, home of The Art Institute of Chicago, originator of deep dish pizza and tourist destination to over 30 million visitors a year. Chicago's population of 3.5 million is a melting pot of individuals from many ethnicities. This diverse mix has built a city with an unrivaled tradition of jazz and blues, astonishing architecture, an appetite for hearty food, muckraking newspapers, universities full of Nobel laureates and some of the most die-hard sports fans you'll ever meet. Walk around Chicago and you'll feel the energy. With attractions such as the Museum Campus, Navy Pier, the North Loop theater district, and luxury shopping destinations along the Magnificent Mile, the Toddling Town is on a roll. The city's eclectic mix of restaurants has gained an international reputation, with star chefs such as Charlie Trotter and Rick Bayless showing that Chicago cuisine goes far beyond deep dish pizza and bratwurst (although you'll find plenty of that too). Don't forget to visit the The Cooking and Hospitality Institute of Chicago Café and see our students in action. Chicago stretches for 25 miles along the southern tip of Lake Michigan's western shore. The Loop is the center of the city, drawing its name from the elevated train tracks that circle it. Its buildings constitute a textbook of American architecture. The Cooking and Hospitality Institute of Chicago is in the heart of the trendy River North neighborhood, with more good restaurants than any neighborhood from New York to San Francisco. |
